Muggles Market Spotlight: Lovely Stitches Crochet

Welcome to another Muggles Market Spotlight for 2017! Today, we are delighted to announce the addition of new artisan Lovely Stitches Crochet to our second annual Muggles’ Market at this year’s Geek Gala. Lyndsey Nesbitt took a few minutes to answer some questions about her business and general geekery.

  • What kinds of items will you be selling at this year’s Muggles Market?
I will be selling nerdy/geeky based crocheted items, most of which will have machine embroidery on them to bring the full geekdom to life! Think coffee cozies with your favorite Hogwarts crest on it, or your favorite superhero so you can always let people know who you side with even on the go! I will also have a few super adorable baby themed geeky items too, but my biggest aim is for hats, scarves, cup cozies, and even clutches that can help embody your personality into an item you can take everywhere with you and add to any wardrobe choice.
  • How did you first get started making these things?
I’ve been crocheting since I was 11 (that will be 16 years this year!!), and just recently started to add machine embroidery to my items to give them the full OOMPF. I’ve found that it’s always been hard to fully incorporate your favorite nerdy geeky stuff into items without having to really use your imagination (or a ton of time and a lot of glitter glue) to really bring the idea to life, and I wanted to make it easier on every person that’s ever been through that struggle of wanting to show off their beloved fandom but didn’t know how to. I also really hate sewing little things onto even smaller little things, so embroidery it is!
  • What has been one of your favorite projects to work on?
My most favorite projects to date to work on are the cup cozies. They make perfect blank canvases to turn into anything you want, and are the easiest to always carry with you and remember.
  • What else can you tell us about yourself?
I am a stay at home mom to two young children (5 and 1), and I crochet to keep the crazy away. 😝 I generally like to watch YouTube and listen to/watch people play games as I work, I spend time with my family when time permits it, and laughing at memes at all hours of the day.
  • So this year’s Geek Gala pays homage to Godzilla movies – if you were to create a Godzilla movie today – what type of nemesis do you think he should fight against?
Umbrella Corporation Zombies would be a pretty neat nemesis to go up against, like ALL the zombies of Raccoon City at one time. (I recently made a Godzilla cozy too actually!)
  • And make plans to come visit them on Saturday, October 21st at this year’s Geek Gala
