Welcome to another Muggles Market Spotlight for 2017! Today, we are delighted to announce the addition of new artisans 5 Pennies Place to our second annual Muggles’ Market at this year’s Geek Gala. Nicole Causby took a few minutes to answer some questions about their business and general geekery.
What kind of items will you be selling at this year’s Muggles Market? We will be selling assorted scarves, hand crafted wood and clay jewelry, canvas paintings, handmade bags and purses, and wreaths made out of different materials. We are going to adapt our products to the theme of the market but also bring our 5 Pennies creativity to the plate.
How did you first get started making these things? It started out as a hobby, and it is still a hobby.
What has been one of your favorite projects to work on? My favorite project was the first piece I designed. It is a pecan wood bead bracelet with a penny on one bead wrapped with wire. I made the wood beads on a lathe and drilled numerous holes to attach wire. I love the piece because it is where 5 Pennies Place began.
What else can you tell us about yourself? 5 Pennies Place is just more than myself. We have made it a family and friend affair. You have me, of course, but you also get my husband, daughter, mother, and my neighbor. All of us bring different talents, which helps us create cool and unique items.
So this year’s Geek Gala pays homage to Godzilla movies – if you were to create a Godzilla movie today – what type of nemesis do you think he should fight against? Well, first he needs a good match. I would have to say Iron Man, because Iron Man is strong & witty. I think he can find Godzilla’s weaknesses.
