Geek Gala Entertainment Spotlight: Hawthorn and Holly

Welcome to another Geek Gala Entertainment Spotlight for 2018! Today, we are delighted to introduce you to a wonderful group, Hawthorn and Holly, as part of the entertainment at our tenth annual Geek Gala! Christie Mowery took a few minutes to answer some questions about their music and general geekery.

About Hawthorn and Holly

Hawthorn & Holly is a pop punk band that plays songs about Harry Potter. Started in 2007, these wizards hail from Charlotte, North Carolina. Leah Schroeder and Christie Mowery weave gorgeous harmonies with Eddie Mowery on guitar, while Dave Beaucar of Bristol, Connecticut slaps his amazing bass.

They have established themselves as a fixture in the wizard rock community, performing as featured artists at Misti-Con, Wrockstock, New York Wrock Festival, and Camp 9 3/4. More recently they have expanded their reach to other fandom conventions on the east coast such as Dragon Con, Stellar Con, ConCarolinas, Illogicon, and the Charlotte Geek Gala.

Their albums include “Jinxed in the Head”, “Our Friends Are Wizards,” and “Christmas Magic”, which are available for purchase on iTunes and Bandcamp. You can also hear their sweet tunes on Spotify and many other online streaming services. You might catch them playing songs about Doctor Who and The Hunger Games, in addition to other fandom songs. Don’t be surprised to find yourself dancing and singing along to their fun and infectious music, and falling in love with their ballads as well.

Hawthorn & Holly are the wands of Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter in the book, but in this band stands for the joining of light and dark to create music that appeals to the Slytherin in us all, but also shows that nothing is greater than the power of friendship!

    • How would you describe your musical or performance style to someone who has never heard you before?
Pop punk with lots of harmonies!

    • What is your most recent project, either currently in progress or recently completed?
We’re working on our new album, “We are the Wizard Resistance”! The Kickstarter will be up in a few weeks,so stay tuned!!
    • If you could form a super group with two other performers, bands, or musicians (real or fictional) throughout time and space, who would it be and why?
For me, it would probably would be Fleetwood Mac.
    • So this year’s Geek Gala theme is “Gears and Ghouls”, and focuses on steampunk and day of the dead cosplay. If you could have one body part cybernetically enhanced or replaced, what would you choose, how would you want it changed, and why?
I think I would like a cybernetic arm like Misty from Luke Cage. That way I’d have super strength!!

    • Where can we listen to your work and buy your music and/or other products?
You can go to our website.
    • You can also download our music on iTunes, Spotify and Bandcamp!

Find Hawthorn and Holly on the Interwebz!
